Wow! Olympic Portioned Performing Schedule
Life has been very busy over the last few weeks. As you may have heard, the city of Vancouver had the most epic celebration in history. What a wild 18 days that was.
I will be posting videos and photos of many of the events I attended and performed for over the next few days. Overall, I performed at 4 different Olympic sites including Robson Square, the Richmond Oval, Surrey Site and Granville Island.
In the meantime, I am still recovering from the party & getting my things back together so I can be ready for anything everytime.
Dress Rehearsal!
With the Olympics coming to Vancouver in just under 6 days, I have been busy preparing for gigs with costumes and rehearsals. The city has changed, the tourists have begun descending upon this small city, ZIP lines, Jumbotrons, pretty lights and art installations have appeared in every corner! This city is about to POP! In preparation I have created a costume archive, check it out! Watch for me during the Torch Relay on February 12 as I will be doing a fire performance with my troop! I will be performing on all the streets I can. I am totally excited to be a part of these celebrations. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Turbofest 2010 Recap
Oh wow,
what an amazing group of people out there in Quebec City! They have an amazing space to train, and it’s obvious that training is what they do! I juggled for 18 hours a day while I was at this festival, except when I was watching other people juggle. It was fascinating and unbelievable the amount of talent in this one room!
Happy Holidays!
I have been traveling around the Toronto / Southern Ontario area to be with my family over the holidays. There is little else like staying at your mom’s house by a warm fire on a very cold winters night.
Chinese Night Market - New Promo!
Here is a great representation of what Ryan and I did for all of 2009. It was a great year for street performing & will allow me to have the inertia to keep this work up! It’s currently my favorite thing to do.
Boobalicious 2009!
Oh what a fun and exciting evening with the people at Inner Ring and the BC Breast Cancer foundation. With 30 girls trying to use one bathroom to dress & get ready in it was a hilarious experience as a performer. There were fashion shows and dancers and a live band and DJ’s. Circus performers were in every corner and the night was hot hot hot!
There was a lot of fun videos and photos from this event! Check out the Vancouver Circus Team in action! Things in this city are really heating up!
Burnaby Haunted Village 2009!
This gig was an amazing experience where I got to be part of Public Dreams Society performer set at Burnaby Village over Halloween. I was a juggler who was cursed and could no longer juggle! How sad!
This experience really gave me a chance to add some character and expression to the my art. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet and work with the PDS.
Woot!
Sadly, I only have my cell phone to take my own photographs, and so this is all the evidence I have of this sad non-juggling clown.
An amazing quote
Going to gigs gives an interesting perspective on being an outsider to events. Always new and different, with so many types of people to meet and entertain. Some days, it almost feels like I am at my boundary, yet this is part of the thrill. How can I juggle for people when each perspective of the context and experience of that moment is different?
Within my social work studies I find part of the answer:
“It is not those differences between us that are separating us. It is rather our refusal to recognize those differences, and to examine our distortions which result from our misnaming them and their effects upon human behaviour and expectation” ~ Audre Lorde
Like the focus of juggling itself, you have to live each context or situation moment by moment to fully connect with each individual audience. I think this is the most challenging part about being an entertainer. I also think it’s the most rewarding part.
Chai Debut
This week has been busy with gigs, which is great now that the rain has taken over busking season. I will be doing a gig in Stanley Park tomorrow and another gig at Chai restaurant on Sunday. It’s exciting that my performance is carrying on past summer this year, although it makes me want to juggle more than I want to study.
Come and check it out if you have time:
On the last Sunday of every month Chai (kits) will be presenting a showcase of local performers. (THIS SUNDAY!)
The venue has its own stage and sound system.
The ambiance is comfortable and social …with a Middle Eastern/ South Asian flavour . The capacity is about 100.
