We Learn Better Together – Workshop in August!

Has it been hard for you to learn contact juggling? Struggling to learn contact juggling is, unfortunately, normal. Compared to many of the flow arts, those initial moves take a lot of determination to achieve. Right now, contact juggling, is poorly taught. We need to review our pedagogy.  Also, in North America, we are far away from each other and that makes it more difficult to be motivated. That’s why we strive to put new and improved lessons on youtube, and trying to help the community grow from an informed place. I think we can build an army of great contact jugglers and push this field forward! We Learn Better Together Thom and I started a new website called ballcontact.org – a project that is dedicated to learning and growing as contact jugglers. We all used to use contactjuggling.org, but when Facebook came along, it took over our community. Still, it’s important to make lessons simple, easy to achieve and really change the philosophy that juggling stands on. We are here to change the way we learn contact juggling, and we want to bring everyone to one place, because we learn better together. Join us in Montreal for our first 2 days intensive contact juggling workshop! I am back

I am back! Here’s a Sneak Preview of Dawn’s newest act & tour dates in Quebec and Toronto! View this email in your browser I AM BACK (In Canada) Hey Hey, How are you doing? Things are great here, just wanted to give you some tour dates, a download, and a bit of my story from France. For 2 years I was living and training in France. Moving across the world actually meant a complete deconstruction of all I knew before, and a newly reconstructed view of the world. I re-learned how to walk and balance my body, and by practicing walking and dancing, I learned how to listen to how my body feels. I did this daily. I re-learned how to talk by learning French. I relearned how to write by writing for The Busking Project and the Flow Arts Institute. Understanding tone, speed, and articulation is something I never heard or paid attention when speaking english, but they became became important when learning a foreign language. Most of all, I learned how much attention is required for real listening. Speaking in a second language is an game of endurance of one’s attention span. Who knew? I re-learned how to drive. It was a manual car and I drove through small windy village towns, with the feel of an engine at my fingertips. The space a car takes-up became very apparent when the size of the roads are the size of one lane in Canada. It is still too much to pay attention to driving while speaking French at the same time. It was like reliving 30 years of life in a 2 year time period. Except I am consciously aware of my infantile ways. All of this allows for a deeper...

Artistic Accompaniment

This past few days I was working with Rémi Laroussinie as an Artistic Accompaniment on a big show that I am creating for September. Rémi is one of the co-founders of Maison Des Jonglages in Paris, which is the only cultural body in the world that is officially recognized and identifies juggling as a field in contemporary art. This project is a blend of theatre, dance, object manipulation, clown, and of course, contact juggling. It is a 35 minute solo act that will be with the Kingston Symphony, and I am very excited to present this important piece of my work to the world in just under 4 months time. There is still a lot of work to be done, but having an outside eye certainly clarifies the intentions and directions of the piece, and I am have deep gratitude for Rémi to accompany me on this creative journey. This work deepens my practice and commitment to the juggling arts more and more, and Rémi has paved the way for this to happen in France. I hope to continue to pave the way for this to happen in Canada. We were also included as special guest on Pulsar Radio speaking about Art, and if Art can change the world. Give it a listen here:  ...
